Ok; once more for the slow. The dealer if full of sh*t. Both pistons reach TDC, both plugs fire but only one is on the power stroke. Both plugs firing is just a simpler and cheaper ignition. But the is more vibration in an engine that fires both cylinder at once than in an alternate firing twin. That's why they were created, smoother power and less vibration. A single or a twin with both cylinders(been done and didn't last long) firing at the same time are as brutish as a large single. The cooling issue is BS also as the only thing cooling the center of the piston is the fresh air charge coming in.

I've owned many Polaris's, and like them very much. Although I do own a 660 Grizz now. Its just that Polaris is too heavy....for me anyways. The 650 may win a drag race or a trip through the woods. But you hook up a trailer or sprayer to the 700 and will walk away from the competition. Polaris have got a reputation for having gobs of torque for pulling. Thats why so many farmers and such use them. That why I miss my 500 Sportsman. My Grizz would loss the battle against the 500. It just depends on your type of driving situations. Polaris is built like a brick s#@t house.

when i was looking into making a purchase of either a polaris 700 or cat 650 le i drove both of them after roughly 3 min of riding the 700 polaris eng quit come to find out the crank bearings spun which kind of took me by suprise i asked the dealer about this issue before purchasing either machine and from what he explained polaris has a oiling issue with the mains so i bought the cat and its been reliable for 520 miles of riding ive yet to get bit by the limp mode fairy and now that i got married and buying a house it has to go

i havent tried out a 700 yet, nor have ridden with one, but all i know is that my 650 has a boatload of torque. ive heard and also read in a magazine that in the prairie the 633cc twin puts out 43 horsepower (im guessing thats at the crank not wheels). i havent heard any dyno stories bout the polaris. When i went down to athens ohio, to pick up my machine, i was talkin to the manager and he was telling me stories bout the atv pulls they have down there and he said that the cat 650's have been dominating, some guy pulled 2.5 tons 177 feet. Ive knew polaris's were good at pulls but havent heard anything like that before, granted there was some aftermarket mods to it, thats still alot of weight. Besides the polaris outweighs the ac by what 40lbs wet?

the only way i can see a polaris 700 outpulling the 650 cat is because of it's weight therefore they have traction and well the rest is history anyone that has went mudrunning or anything that has to deal with just true horsepower will tell ya the 650 has more grunt and the polaris 700 doesn't fire both pistons at the same time it alternates and i dunno why but that is the only motor they could get to work but i could see how that motor would be hard on crank bearings

I have raced the new 700 EFI, We were dead even for about 200 yards then he starts to pull away. At 300 yards he was a bike length ahead of me and still pulling away. Then the 700 raced a 650 Prairie, the Prarie pulled out about 3 lenghts where they stayed even. at 350 yds or so, the 700 passed him. The 700 is fast.

You guys talking about EFI Sportsmans or carburated?
I've ridden one 700 twin, and that was about a week before it came out back in August of 01. Polaris rep brought it by my house (no joke) because he had seen me on this forum, and he was in the area showing it at a local fair. I had my 02 660 for like a month before that, and I liked a lot of things about the 700. It was smooth, rode good at speed over bumps and it was on par with the 660 as far as speed went. I couldn't downplay it any without really getting picky (like whining because it didn't have a pull start or some pansy crap like that).
It would stack up ok against the AC, because the Cat doesn't have that weight advantage that the Prairie does over it.

too me acceleration is more important than overall speed, how often do u get to hit 60+ down a trail. So if the ac held its own against a 700 EFI i say thats pretty damn good even for 200 yards. Now where the ac can trounce the polaris is in the nasty stuff, on demand 4 wheel drive?? thats for road sedans and road suvs. Do you want to hit a mud hole and have your four wheel drive engage after you start slipping, dont think so, and that locking diff is awesome, glad its not always on cause if you have tried turning it when its on, thats a workout
