My girlfriend has rode my Xpedition425 a few times and loves it but her uncle is a Artic Cat dealer and says he can get her any Cat for about $200 over cost. Can yall give me the "heads up" on some of the Cat features, tranny, suspension, motors, etc. Im just not very familioar with the AC lineup and I would like "real world" info so I can help her pick out a bike that she will like.
thanks

Try the Arctic Cat 300 or 2001 500. Both have 2wd/4wd and the 500 will probaly race your 425, but I have never raced with one to make sure(but I have riden a 425 and I think theArctic Cat 500 has more punch). So you might want to make your decision on that(weather you want her to keep up with you, or burn you, your choice).

The 300 and 250 are the only ones with IRS. As far as speed goes, my 500 does 51-52 according to the GPS. The speedometer reads a lot faster, and I believe the GPS all day. Only a half mph different than my truck. From what I heard, the Expedition will run with that. Hell, I took my old 89 honda 300 2wd out yesterday with the GPS. It would do 50-51 on level pavement. It took it longer to get there than the 500, but still it got there. For anyone that says the Honda 300's only go 40, they need to push the gas a little harder or get theirs fixed. Mine is a relic and still runs almost as fast as a late model 500.

As far as which to get. I would get the 500 over the 425 but not the 300.

Try 400 4x4. It handles good for a 400 class and Polaris wish they had a rear suspension like a Cat.The rocker shifter takes some getting used to or you can convert it to a regular shifter!!I have a 500. I think its a little too heavy in the steering dept for a lady to ride.Don't mess with the 300 class they have carb problems.Oh yeah the rear axle that looks like a strait axle works better than a independent and is tougher.(four link rear suspension) Good luck!!!

Personally, I LOVE AC atv's. They're butt ugly compared to the other makes, but built like a brick outhouse. For features, visit their website @ artic-cat.com. Motors and trannys are all Suzuki and proven to be very reliable. As for suspension, you can ride all day long and not feel "beat up".

I've never experienced the carb problems in2atvn describes in any of our bikes...3 total...all '99 300's...wife has a 2x4...daughter has a 4x4...and my 4x4... and mine has 1100 miles on it. In fact, none of the bikes has EVER been in the shop for any reason in 15 months. I might add that we're not all that nice to them, either, when we do take them out.

I looked at alot of different makes and models for almost eight weeks before deciding on AC and am very happy with the 300. But if I had to do it over again, I would get the 500 for myself for the extra power.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your decision.

Pfelect,

I have an AC 500 Auto, 2000 model. The property where I do most of my riding is immediately adjacent to my Parents home, so I leave the Cat in a building at my folks house most of the time. My mother is 72 years old (young!) and she absolutely loves the machine. With the automatic transmission, its pretty easy to ride, and we generally leave it in 2 wheel drive, which makes the steering a bit lighter. Adding an extra pound or two of air in the front tires helps with that too. I just wish I had a girlfriend who could have got me a deal on mine.... Actually, mom has probably put as many miles on the machine as I have (just over 600 on it, since March). I would not have any problem recommending a 500 Auto, although I suspect a 425 Expedition, with 5 speed, would be quicker (not always a bad thing either).

Good luck - BTW, what's the scoop with the name - have you got elected to some office?

My brother has a 425 exp. And it will out run me through 3rd gear after that the 500 cat will walk off from it. To tell you the truth though if there wasn't a big price difference I would get another 425 for her if I were you. They are an awsome ride.

BTW If you would like to see the Arctic cat 2001 line-up you can go here http://www.atvmasters.com/arctic-cat.html or go to my main page and click on Pictures.
