Arctic Cat 400 Brakes
#1
My friend just bought a new 2005 400 4x4 manual. We were out riding in his gravel pit it and all of a sudden, the brakes felt weird. We also heard a scraping noise.
Took a look at it and found the culprit on the rear. The little foot brake's caliper had broken off the hub. We dragged it back to his shop and just took the caliper off altogether and went back out to ride. Soon as he tried the brakes again, they kind of pulsed, like a warped rotor on a car.
Does the foot brake caliper hold the rear rotor in line? I've searched and some people say the rear rotor does warp.
He took it back to the shop under warrenty considering he's only had it for two weeks.
And what's with the oil filters? He bought one at the dealer for $19. We took it to NAPA and had the # crossed but it still cost $10.
I keep telling him he should'a bought a HONDA.

Yup, Honda's never break, either do Chevy truck from what I've heard. They also get 50 MPG, when towing. They all break, they're mechanical, if you don't want to spend a little here and there, stay home and sell it.

NO, I'm just saying that if he wanted something HIGH MAINTENANCE, he woulda bought a damn two-stroke.
He's had it two weeks and something that major broke.
"if you don't want to spend a little here and there, stay home and sell it. "
The reason he bought a new four-wheeler is that he didn't want to have to deal with fixing crap.

He's finally getting it back tomorrow. Apparently, there's a nation wide backorder on the hub/spindle, so the dealer took one off a new quad and got his going. He then found that the rear rotor WAS warped and replaced that little guy, too.

Try www.hyperparts.com, I picked up a vesrah oil filter for $9, can get a NK brand for $8.00. I own a AC 98 454. They also have brake pads for about 1/2 the price of AC pads.
