I've heard about the German engineering thing several times - anyone know WHICH german company is helping? Porsche has a very large engineering dept and did all the work on H-D Evolution engine as well as the engine in their new V-Rod. Prior to the V-Rod they developed a water cooled V4 for H-D which was never produced as it was viewed by management as not the direction H-D should go at the time.

As for not expecting any problems, well, it's the first engine AC has produced, in a new plant, with new workers (at least some of them), first time for this, first time for that, etc. Problems can and should be expected. It's hard to wait, particularly when you are emotionally commited, but it appears AC really wants to get it right and that has to be a good thing. ...and think about what will happen to the company if they don't get it right. In terms of Honda or Kaw, AC is not that big a company, they cannot afford the millions it would cost them if this bike isn't right. They'll get there.

...but in the meantime I'd sure like to see EFI on all their bikes, 400 and bigger. Think about the shock wave that would send through the ATV industry and the positive press AC would get.

Bear
If VW did the engineering, fine and I have no problem with that, but you can't say it as though they are the same company. They are not. It's a common misconception. VW and Porsche are only common as far as shipping and parts distro is concerned. And, yes, some joint projects. Porsche, being the much smaller company attaches itself to VW's distro arm for convience and cost, but Porsche is a totally separate company with it's own, and quite large engineering department. They do a lot of work for U.S. companies and others around the world, most of which is done quietly, without acknowledgement, and certainly without fanfair.

Hi, the 600, 700, 700EFI, and 800EFI are all the same block. The 800 (760) is just a 700 with a longer stroke. I think Polaris 800 that goes in the snowmobile is a 780, so there is a little difference between the two. Big gun makes a ok pipe I hear (never used one). Polaris ATV engines 500 and down are Robin/Fuji (Robin and Fuji are the same company) engines (same people that make Subaru cars). I hope this helps...

The Polaris 780 4 stroke sled engine is a V twin....I suspect nothing is the same at all.The two stroke 800 sled engine is for sure totally different ;^)

The polaris 700 isn't a moddified snowmobile engine. Polaris also contracted the same german consultants for the design of the 700.
