Hey all,

Im wondering which, if any mods might be appropriate for my new hunting partner. I dont want to do anything silly. Just thinking about some things like maybe a K&N Air Filter. Simple things that might improve performance and comfort without changing the machine as a whole.

Any thoughts?

no prob. There arent too many mods out there for the 400. I have an 03 model its really hard to find stuff for it. Your best bet would be to go with the K&N filter then rejet your carbs. You could also find an exhaust that is close enough to fit your pipe, then have to do some of your own work to get it to fit. There are a few others on here that have done that already. I think i remember either supertrapp or hmf makes one close enough to fit. As of yet there arent any modules out there. And if u go with the supertrapp, its tuneable so you can get it pretty quiet when your out hunting.

K&N filter kit and a jet ket are the cheapest per horsepower changes. After that, exhaust mods are expensive per horsepower and dont work near as well with out the jet kits and filter kit. The are Filter and jet kit combo available. Try at K&N and Dynojet web sites as Dynojet has a kit for the 2005 400 as does K&N.

I think I'll check those out. I figure I'll just stay with the K&N Filter.

Does anyone know...My carb has already been rejetted for my altitude (5000-8000 feet), will I need to get it RE-jetted again with the addition of a K&N?

Thanks

Maybe is the best answer I can give. Usually a Filter kit will allow more air into the engine and you need to rejet. That's why the jet kit and filter are recommended together. But it will depend on your present jetting (whether it is slightly rich or right on) and how much addition air the filter lets in. The jet kit gives you a lot of flexiblity and a dial-a-jet gives you even more easier adjustment.
