Default annoying rattle on 05' AC 400

I believe a saw a thread that talked about the rattle of the muffler and how to fix it the other day. I just cant find it now.

When idling my machine rattles somewhere. I believe that it is coming from the exhaust. There was something about putting washers between the exhaust or the heat shield? Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks.

Mine rattles at the left front flare where it extends around the headlight. I haven't got around to trimming it yet.

If you take the seat off and look down the exhaust pipe you may see that the exhaust pipe rubs a part of the frame just underneath the back edge of the seat. It makes a rattling squeaking sound?

I removed the side panel along the exhaust. Took a chunk of 2x4 and a 5lb hammer and gave it a few hefty taps until it wasn't touching the frame and the noise was gone.

I also used weather stripping (black colored) that was about 3/8 inch wide and 1/8inch thick on the skid plate and onthe inside front edge of the side panels to keep them from rattling as well.

Found both these quick fixes on here posted in other threads and they have worked great.

Hope this helps.

Swampy, that's called a "skim adjustment" isn't it?

On my 2002 500i, my left side plastic panel started vibrating on me. It started last fall and only does it at low revs. I was thinking of removing the panel, applying some clear silicone along its edges that touch the other body panels, the re-install the side panel. Has anyone tried this trick?

Mr Tommy,

I think that depends on which knuckle you skim when you do the adjustment.

My 05 had a rattle under the seat that was driving me crazy, well I took the seat off when it was running and the new tool kit that AC uses with the tool tray was the cause, the tools vibrating on one another. well did some changes and not a rattle at all. My 04 has a rattle near the front left head light. But it is not bad for me to worry about.

Thanks for this tip. I'll give it a try when my local weather gets above the freezing mark. Currently, its between -20s to -40s. I'm sure weather seal strips don't stick anything in this cold a weather. Thanks for the tip....
