Guys,

I just took my 2001 AC 500 manual back to the dealer today, I am only getting about 30 miles to a tank of gas. The mechanic at the dealer adjusted the air mixture screw all the way in and it was still running, so there is a problem with air getting into the motor elsewhere. Has anyone else had these problems? And what kind of gas mileage should I be getting? I could not find an answer to the gas mileage question in the owner's manual or on AC's website.
I would appreciate any help. Thank You.

 

 

Is that 30 miles the whole tank, or when the gauge reads empty? I get about 40 miles or so, depending on how hard I'm riding, before I have to go to reserve. When I have to go to reserve, my gauge reads empty but I have about 2 gallons left. Does this sound about the same as the rest of you?

 

I get 102 miles per tank INCLUDING reserve(found that out the hard way).

 

My AC500a goes well into the 50s on miles per tank full before I have to go to reserve. Altitude probably plays a factor also. Average in my area 500' to 1000' above sea level. It gets less up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Well that tank was mostly running around stuff, mostly crusin around, but still aggressive full throttle runs. Most of my riding is done on flat terain in 4th-5th gear. SO thats A BIG reason I got that good of milage. The reason I was on reserve is cause I forgot it there. Last time I ran out on the normal setting I went to the gas station and left it there( freaking 3rd degree burns are VERY possible when it's hot on the models older than 2000). I was following my buddy on his 450(thank god) when I noticed him pulling away from me big time. I then realized that my gas had ran out. So I tried to switch it to reserve and nothing. SO my buddy pulled my tot he gas station(only chance he ever got to pull an Arctic Cat so I had to let him do it). After that I have never tested my gas milage again and have only used reserve 1 time since then also.

 

Maybe in the 60's but that is pushing it. None of the big bores get good mileage. Thats why they have the big tanks. The Rubicon is an example of a poor tank design. What the hell were they thinking. My honda 300 gets at least twice as good of mileage.

 

Last month we spent a week in the mountains at around 10,000 - 12,500 ft with our Arctic Cats. Each day we rode aprox. 60 - 80 miles under all types of trail conditions and consistantly I reicved 70-80 mpg on my 500 auto..I did carry extra fuel but,never had to put any in due to running out. This was the first time we rode the Cat's all day everyday for a week. Most of the time back home ,hard trail riding for only a few hours at a time I would only get around 55 -60 mpg.

 

Winston, I assume you mean miles per tank of fuel rather than 70 miles per gallon?
