break problems?
#1
I have a 2005 Arctic cat 400 4x4 auto and i've been having problems with the hand break. Sometimes when you press it, it feels like its not there, then it comes back (im not really sure how to explain it?).
Im just wondering if anyone else has been having this problem, and if so what the hell is it? Its still under waranty so i could take it in but big pain in the butt if i have to. Would it have something to do with the cold?

I would just take it to the dealer. I know thats a pain in the butt but if they find out that you tried to fix it yourself, they may blame you for the problem and void your warrantee. Take advantage of your dealer, After all, thats what warrantee's are for.

i thought i was the only one with this problem!!! heres what it is. the rubber seal in your hand brake. when you pull your brake lever the lever pushes on a piston. the piston is attathed to the seal(i believe there are 2,maybe 3) all in one. then there is a spring to push the lever back out. the seals are probably dirty or worn and the brake fluid goes right by it , not allowing pressure. thats why you get a spongy feel when you pull the lever. (if you squeeze it really fast the brake with pressureize and you will have brakes for about 5 seconds.) ive already replaced 5 of them and im goin in next week for another. yes it is under warrenty. atleast mine is. as far as the foot brake goes, they all suck unless they fixed the 2005's.

I would have thought the brakes just needed to be bled. Thats pretty new to have seals going out, but then I guess you never know. If its under warranty still, by all means take it in asap.

I dont think its the seals, because when i pull the brake i get a "nothing is there" feeling not a spongy feeling, its like i have no brakes (the actual lever goes floppy?) for a minute but if i pull it again there back?? I dont know i think im just gonna take it in?

First question, Did you burnish the brakes as per instructions in the owners manual? If not that can cause this problem. If not it needs to go to the dealer for a check out. Could be a bad master cylinder or a bad caliper. That's what your warranty is for. I used mine for a Low/Hi/Rev linkage problem, no charge.
