AC 650 Multi-Rider

Shonk - Have you had any legal issues come up with your mod? I think that would be the biggest reason for me not to modify my wheeler. Where I ride most of the time (Beltrami area) there are already enough problems with the trails, so I don't wanna add to the problem.

I am a big believer that 2 up riding on a single rider quad is safe if both parties involved have a head on their shoulders and us it. "Useing it" is the very important part. Useing great caution and respecting the abilities of the machine are the key. Anyone that thinks they can hop on 2 up and just ride as they normally due is looking for a real disaster.
Id also like to add that WhoDatInDaMud had some very good words of wisdom for all of us.
Anyway with that said I'll add a few things that I have done. First we did not use a seat type box as all of them that I looked at placed my passenger over or behind the rear axle. We used a basic wrap around type of box that we attached a padded back rest to. This places the passenger just ahead of the rear axle on the factory seat. Then we built a set of foot pegs very similar to the ones you can buy on line but they attack to our MRP Rack and the Floor Board, and are removable in a snap. This gives my passenger the ability to stand or better use their weight to help out. We also incorporated a set of handles into the top front edge of the wrap around part of the box. Next, and very important, we went to highlifter.com and bought their replacement shock springs that add 100# to your quads capacity. This was very helpful in making the quad much more stable when riding two up.
With all of that done and a little common sense we have great results riding two up.
There are still a few draw backs worth mentioning. Remeber it is still a single rider quad and has limitations. If you do turn over the passenger is hindered in there ability to "bail off" so always be careful of that. Also climbing hills is one of the most notable drawbacks, My rule of thumb is, if in doubt let the passenger off and go up solo. And remeber there is always a differance in handleing so communication with your pasenger is a must. In closing, get used to the way it rides with the extra passenger before pushing it very far or fast.
Sorry for the rambling Ill shut up now.

DeeDawg,
Freetraper has great points.
Did you see my pics?
I realy don't expect any issues with the law in Idaho or eastern Washington (western Washington could be a different story).
Cost was not bad
seat 300.00
foot peg 80.00
I also added 2 clamps 5.00
Shonk

I looked at your pics and I hope whoever rides on the back of that has good medical insurance - and you have good liability insurance.
That seat puts the rider way to far rearward. Im not sure who you are trying to fool - but it must be yourself and your pax.
Go ahead and argue with me - But I have the medical bills, broken bones, scars and nerve damage to make me an expert. It aint right.

Sir I am self-insured and carry a million deductible. I really appreciate your concern for my financial ability to cover my expenses.
"That seat puts the rider way to far rearward".
If I move the CG forward do you think it will be safer than skydiving or aerobatics’?
"I’m not sure who you are trying to fool - but it must be yourself and your pax".
Interesting, I’m not trying to fool anyone. I’m seeking to understand before being understood. My I suggest you give it a try it surly will help you better interact with your students. Do you find your style effective in flight? Who are you fooling when you take the big leap?
"But I have the medical bills, broken bones, scars and nerve damage to make me an expert".
There no way I would argue with a self-proclaimed expert on breaking their bones, scaring themselves and of course the nerve damage. (Between your ears) LOL.
Shonk
By looking at a photo of yours that cooler hanging on the back better be empty if not your aft CG is much greater.
