does anyone know what type of bulb is needed to replace the headlights in a 1999 a/c 500? I phoned the dealer and they want $25 each. So i was wondering if there is a cross over bulb that will work and be a little more reasonable in price. Thanx in advance.

Remove your bad buld and try the auto parts store. Just hand them the bulb, don't tell them what it fits. Sometimes, though you are stuck with the OEM lite.

I had to change one on my 2000 500 and I remember not having much luck sourcing an aftermarket, but this was back in 2001. I though I could find the old bulb, but no such luck. Is there anything written on the bulb base? brand? 12V by how many watts?

.

On my '02 AC 500i, I removed the front light bulb (which was 27w) and brought it to my local UAP-Auto store. Within 1 minute, he had it matched and asked if I wanted at 27w or a 50w bulb (with the same socket). For low beams, I run with 27Ws. For high beams, I run with 50Ws. When all lights are ON, you'd think I was driving an airplane with its landing lights on. That's how much brighter the 50ws are - and I didn't even have to upgrade the wiring or fuse. Simply plug in and "away we go".

As a suggestion, remove your bulb and try the same trick. Worked great for me.

Wassup Spike, did you find any problems with heat by upgrading the bulbs to 50w? I'm thinking about upgrading both low and high beams, but I don't want to melt the lenses

No problems with heat build-up on our 2002 500i. Perhaps its the lower climate in my area that helps. Perhaps its the large volume of space around the bulb that helps. Not too sure.

I do remember reading a post about a guy with an 2004 AC (I think) who upgraded his head light bulbs and the next thing he knew, the lens on his AC melted. For us, our 2002 "High Beam only" upgrade has been working great.

Could you please tell me where you bought the 50watt #881 bulbs? The auto stores around here act like they never heard of such a thing. I have a 2005 Arctic Cat 500 that needs the upgrade on the lights. Thanks a bunch.
