Default Fuel Gage Problem

I have a friend who has a 05 Artic Cat 500. He ran it really low a bout a week ago and has filled it full but the gage is still reading Empty. Any ideas?

Thanks for any replies!

Sounds like the float in the tank is stuck, reach under the tank and give it a smack with your hand .
Good luck

I usually just slap the side of the tank next to the gauge, sometimes several times and works everytime.

The gauge is held in the tank with a rubber gasket. Carefully pry under the gauge with a flat screwdriver. Do a little at a time, working around the assembly. Don't over do it or you will break the gauge. Once it pops free, lift the entire assembly out from the tank.

The float slides up and down on two guide rods. As it does so it rotates a twisted piece of flat metal, in the middle, between the two guide rods and in the center of the float. As this twisted metal piece turns, it moves the gauge, giving you the fuel reading.

Obviously the float is sticking, probably on the guide rods. Spreading them apart just enough to release the binding should fix the problem. You'll see where the problem is occuring.

When installing, use silicone on the gasket or you'll never get it to snap back in like it's suppose to.

A while back all the gauge parts within the tank fell apart. Anyway, after rebuilding the gauge, I found installation was easy by simply placing the rubber grommet (gasket) in the tank first, then push the gauge down into that.

my 03 400 has the same problem. but after taking the gauge out and looking at the slide, i can tell its definitely not the slide thats sticking but the red needle and shaft inside the gauge face. im just gonna buy another one.

Well Lonnie you told me you could not read or write? That is why I posted this message for you. You are a turkey. If you are reading this look at my profile (erikd5155) and look at the guy in the red shirt doesn't he look like a turkey would you trust him? Just joking Lonnie is my best buddy we have pretty well grown up around the fire dept. we both started on Honda 110’s in the early 80’s. We are friends for ever! Well that is if he doesn’t **** me off or anything.

Thanks for all the replies!
