I am quite surprised to see the gas price in Alaska. I would have thought it would be much lower given all the crude.

Well, here is a state tax chart...and that wont explain it... I paid $1.87 last time I filled my car in MN.

Gas prices are high every place from what I hear. Just especially here in Bush Alaska. All the fuel is brought in by barge or boat which adds a special tax I guess. $1.87 a gallon is excellent. Are you sure that wasn't per liter?

I haven't been in Anchorage for a while so I don't know if they are high there as well. But, since summer vacation time is right around the corner I think the prices will go up. Deffinitely makes a person think about the fuel consumption of the "big bore" ATV's compared to their price. Then again, I guess if you can afford the machine you can probably afford the fuel.

Ya, I don't mide putting the fuel in the ATV as it really doesn't use that much, espically compared to my snowmobile

We were in Anchorage two weeks ago and paid $2.10 per gallon I think. We were in Minnesota about a month ago and gased up for $1.95, drove into Wisconsin and it was $2.35! I like how MN puts Ethanol in the gas, wish we could get some of that up here.

Doober, wait until the 2006's come out, might be able to score a EFI machine. Good luck!

Be careful what you wish for, 10% ethanol is gas is fine for cars and trucks, but probably reduces mileage 5% (ethanol has less energy it in that pure hydrocarbon, as it is partially oxidized already), so when you do the math of fuel cost, mileage, etc... it gets a little complicated. That said, supposedly it burns a little cleaner, and that is worth something i suppose.

This all said, I buy non oxygenated gas for the atv and all small engines I use and that usually runs around 20cents more per gallon and is not available at every gas station. Oh, yeah, the oxygenated gas seems to not be as stable if it sits around - possible even with seafoam or stalbil added, although these products should help. Small engines are more suseptible to have problems with aged gas than car and truck engines it seems.... Regular gas has been however between 2.19 and about 1.95 for many months now.

Back to MN, the state gov. got a bill passed that will try to make ethanol at 20% within like 8 years... well, that might be fine for cars that get made to burn that mix, but may not work well in motors that were designed to run on 0-10% oxy-blended gas. Time will tell how this gets sorted out.
