Default AC 400 wont start, ticking sound

It has been starting just fine and then it just quit. All I hear is a loud ticking sound. Put a charger on it and made sure battery was charged. Still nothing. If your sitting on the bike then under the seat on the rh side is where its coming from. Grabbed some wires and bent them and it started just fine.

What could be the causes of this? Its a 2003 model.

Thanks

Check to make sure all the wires are tight on the starter solenoid.

Sorry for the delay in posting my findings. Yeah, the battery was dry. That will do it everytime. duh...
I guess it was a fluke that when I moved the wires it started.

Rule one about ATV charging systems. They will and do overcharge the battery and will boil the water out of them. I liked the exposed battery, like on my 2001 AC 250 cause all you had to do was glance under the right rear fender and could see the water level. My 2005 400 reqiures removing the damn thing to do a visual check. I usually pull the battery every 2 to 3 months to check.

That's why the battery tenders are so nice. Most car battery chargers are 2 amp. The battery tenders are less than 1 amp. The slower you charge a battery the better.

For motorcycle batteries (that's what ATVs use) you need an even a smaller tender than car batteries. The last time I checked into it Motorcycle/ATV batteries can not handle more than .2 amp, or 200 milliamps. Otherwise they get overcharged and boiled dry.

That's pretty brave, an Okie calling anybody dumb. You hear why there are no more true Okies? The Texans quit screwing jack rabbits.
