Snow Plow

Hi guys, getting ready to order a new plow for my 05 500 auto. Ive read that the 60" is better then the 50" (plows outside of wheel path) anyone have any comments on the difference between the composite or steel blade? also does the standard A/C plow mounting kit interfere with the ground clearance when removed? Thanks guys..

yes, the plow mounts will interfere with ground clearence in the summer time. BUT>>> if you bring it in to the dealer, ask them to save you the bolts they take out to mount the brackets.... those bolts are longer and when u try to take the brackets out in the spring, those bolts won't fit...
I bought my bike with the mounts on them already, and left it like that as I was heading into winter time... well, in the spring, i had to get another set of bolts that fit.
As for the 60 inch.. i say ya, get it.. u'll want it later.

If you're doing big areas like driveways, the 6o" is good, but if you have some narrow spots such as sidewalks on your street or yard the 60" could be too wide to fit in those spots. So alot depends on where you plan to use it. Don't worry about the 60" being too wide for your quad to handle, cause if the snow is too deep, just take a narrower cut with the blade.

I have the 60 inche blade and it works great. I would recomend getting the deflector kit for top of blade. I have it and wouldn't be without it. I have the composite blade and works a lot better then the steel blades i've had before. The snow dosn't stick to the plastic as bad as the steel when its wet. The mounts hang down a litttle bit but not as bad as other quads. They might get hung up on hard ground or rocks but not to bad in mud.

I had great luck with my composite blade, it held up real well over the last two winters here in Alaska. One thing, I'd stay away from the Arctic Cat Plow package. They don't have replacemen parts if you bent or break a metal piece.(Or they didn't use to) I never had a issue with mounting plates when it came to ground clearance with the Cat kit. ( At least they were never bent) If I had to do it all over again ,which I am with a side by side, I'll be using the company that also makes it possable to mount a small loader bucket, and a couple other attachments. What else is cool is they are supposed to take the weight off the front of your ATV. The name of the company slips my mind , but somebody I'm sure knows what I'm talking about.
Good luck with what ever your choice may be.

On my '03 composite 60" Cat plow, there are two spots to hook up with the winch. The only difference between the two hook up spots as far as I can tell is, One hook up allows the rider to raise the plow higher when stacking snow. There are only two spring loaded pins that you twist and lock into place to hold the plow/frame on the machine. It takes me about 5 mins to attach the plow and go. It takes longer to adjust the front shocks then hook up the plow!
