I've had my eye on that for myself, I'm 5'4' 100lbs. I need a quad for serious trail riding, and hauling good sized loads. Is this the ATv for me?

Keep looking, if you are serious about good sized loads, youre gonna need at least a 400 cc quad.

Not enough $$$ for a 400cc. I've got to stay around $3500

I have both a 250 2X4 and a 400 4X4 and under anything except extreme conditions the 250 will do whatever the 400 will. They both have the same rack capacity, 100lbs front and 200lbs rear, plus the same towing capacity, 850lbs. The 250 has slightly less ground clearance, I cured that with a Moose lift Kit, for $79.95. The 4X4 gives you a bit better ability to go into nastier situations, but with trail riding there isn't enough difference to worry about. I live in the NW corner of Washington, so alot of out terrain is like yours only wetter. You should be fine with it.

I have a 2006 250 for my son. The 2006 is a completely new bike from past models. They are made for Arctic Cat by Kymco. They are liquid cooled and 2 range tranny. It is smaller, but I feel it is more sporty. The rack capacities are 50 front and 100 rear. Towing is 500 lbs. I have had it up to 44 mph. ( I am 5'11' 185lbs ). If you have any specific question let me know.

How big is your son? Do you think I would be able to handle it? And is it reliable? And how much does the 06 cost?

if you're looking for a pre-2006 250, then you will be amazed with it. I have an '03 250 4x4 and i used it the other weekend to pull bushes out from around the yeard and I also use it in the winter to push snow, even the storm that dumped 12'. It has no problems doing that at all. The 3 range tranny is awesome!!

Yeah but the thing is, the 06 is a totally different quad (Made by Kymco), and I would rather have it since it is automatic, but I don't know if the new one is trash or not.

The '06 250 is a little big for him right now (He is almost 10), but he handles it very well. He has been riding dirt bikes since he was 4 and atv's since he was 6. I feel like Kymco must be a fairly reliable company or Arctic Cat would not have chosen them. Most of the smaller quads (200cc and less) are made by Korean or Taiwanese companies. AC, Polaris, Bomb and others use these companies. Kymco has been around for many years. Their 250 is a chain drive and their 300 is a shaft. The Kymcos have seperate hand brake controls instead of the one-hand that AC uses. The 3 year warranty that AC is giving now is a nice extra. Hope this helps.
