Default 2001 arctic cat 250 4x4

I had bought my son an Eton 90 a few months back and had so much fun driving his I bought a 2001 Arctic cat 250 4x4 this weekend. should be a great atv to teach myself on. I'm a snowmobiler so this is new ground for me.
any ways. I purchased it also because we have a 5 acre pond that I want to be able to plow of for our ice skating rink. the last 2 years snowblowing it just took way way way too long.

So. since I'm new I need some help/advice. It has a winch (warn?). Now I want to ad a plow..whats the most economical and best way to do it?

I don't feel like paying AC dealer to install one.. since I have a winch does that help with parts that I won't need then.

We have a store in Wisconsin called Farm and Fleet. they have a plow for like $263 and then a plow install kit for like another $129.00 I'd love some straight advice.

Thanks in advance!

Marc from Wind Lake Wisconsin

Milwmarc, welcome aboard!

The AC 250 will serve you well, it's drivetrain is nearly the same as the old suzuki quadrunner 250/king quad, but with much better suspension. Solid combo with many gears (15 forward and 3 reverse) to make the best of what the little engine has to offer. One thing you should do is look into accessing the "differential lock" feature... since you have a 2001 you have the same front diff as the suzukis, which have differential lock. The 2002-up use a different front differential which doesn't have the locking feature. It's as simple as loosening the connection at the front diff and moving the arm forward about 3 notches.... there's a web page somewhere that details this, if i can find it i'll post it here.

Since you already have a winch, you're set. Just mount up the plow and hook the winch to it. I'm not familiar with how winches are mounted on the ACs, so maybe other members here will talk about how their setups work with plows.

Go to Quad Page and click on "technical articles" on the left side. Then on the next menu you'll see a link going to the 300 locker mod (works the same way as the 250).

Another refrence: locker thread (see post #12)

Here's some pics of the mod: Locker mod pics (credit goes to member "YAAMULE" from the highlifter forums)

Read through those, take some notes, and get to it! Most people say it takes less than 30 minutes.

Hope this helps

I have an '03 250 4x4 and I have a Warn winch and the arctic cat plow for it. I got it all for christmas last year and it all works great. The plow has a poly moldboard instead of steel so it's lighter and the snow rolls off a bit better. The a/c setup is nice (and easy to put together and attach) but I think it's more $$ than plows from other places, but then again, this one is built for arctic cat. Since you have a winch you won't have to buy a mechanical lift.

the 250 will do a good job pushing snow. Last winter I could push 12' of snow with no problem.
