The cat 500 manual is faster off the line than the auto 500 cat.

Default ac 500vs polaris 500

i owned a 02 polaris (425 cc)400 4x4.

i now own a 05 AC 500 4x4 automatic.
i realy like my AC 500.

but for real.........my 400 polaris was much faster on PTO then the AC 500.

one friend had a honda 350 and another friend a suzuki 400(which is like a ac 400)
the polaris 400 would beat them top end speed. I weigh 300 lbs and the polaris weighed 700 lbs+ with gas and oil so whe're looking at over 1000 lbs..................i could get out 55 mph and on a good day with wind at my back or no wind i could get 60 mph.

reason i bought the AC 500 is because the dealer is right in my small town of under 5000 people .
i was told they have lower end power and is what i wanted the most.
i will be doing lots of deer, food plots with it pulling a 4' spring tooth, sprayers etc.

now my poalris did a great job doing the same thing also....i had over 4000 miles on it and needed something different.

"and is there a big difference betwwen the 500 ac and the 650?"

Yes there is. The cat h1 or v2 is much faster than the 500's especially once yet get over 30 mph. there is also about a 10mph difference in top end. the 650's can wheelie on demand and the 500's dont. With that said the 500's are the most reliable of the two and the 650 V2 is most reliable of the 650's though the 06 models of the H1's are much improved.

The 650 has a lot more raw power then the 500 which can be expected. Its not pull you off the handlebars power but not to far off from that.

The 500 Polaris is faster then a 500 cat. Is that why your buying the atv for? Competition?
Faster bumper rubbing trail riding makes me pick the Polaris. But for hunting or more technical riding I choose the Cat.

If your going to carry a PAX the 2 rider versions are WAY better. I use a 2-rider TRV for hunting and will NEVER bring the Polaris as the Cat is more stable and requires less arm wrestling traversing a lengthly hill side. I also strap a large backpack to the rear PAX backrest leaving adequate room for myself. Thr MRP features of the Cat for rackage options is the best of any manufacturer if your looking at a utility machine. I own and use most of the MRP accessories as I switch between trail, camping, icefishing and hunting modes.

Anyone who beleives the 500 cat to be fast - has not rode on or with one.

I would run over any manual shift atv with the truck to use the insurance money to buy a automatic. It is almost impossible to find anyone who switched from auto to manual machines but there is no accounting for the wide brush of humanity blessed with the prosperity to afford that decision.

The h.o is faster, but I think the cat is good the way it is...alright, maybe I wouldn't mind if it was a bit faster.

On topic about auto vs manual:
Although I have lots of miles on my h.o, I have come to a conclusion, I will never own an automatic atv ever again. Less trouble with a 5speed. I know this from experience and two sportsmans with 9000 plus miles. If my H.O was available with a 5speed, it would be my next bike, but as it stands, the AC500 5speed will be my next bike
