I had an 04 650 and the first thing I did to it was replace the stock tires with Bearclaws. It did improve the handling but did nothing to improve the heavy steering. I've since bought a Polaris 800 and the handling/steering difference between the two is like night and day. Like a previous post stated, it's like moving from manual steering to power steering.

 

What is truly amazing is the complete opposite experience and opinion some of us have. I've posted many times how I wouldn't use "my" Polaris 500 for hunting any longer as its steering requires so much effort when traversing a off-trail side hill and the AC can be ridden one handed on the same hill and same conditions.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong. I believe we can have different interpretations based on variable factors such as front wheel alignment or different tires - ie examples I have expereince with. And I'm sure there are numerous other variables that play a role that I don’t' even know about but someone else may be dealing with.

I have found that most heavy steering problems are caused by mis-alignment, rather than anything else. I have found that the factory setting of a 1/4' toe in is to much. I found 1/8" or 1/16" works better and tire pressure is critical, never less than 4 psi, 5 psi is better (actually 5 psi is spec. by the way).
