Hi
Well I have a problem with my brakes. I have to pump the handle three times to get it to grab? I've bled them but nothing, can any one say where my problem is?

My brother had problems with the brakes on his AC 400 that was just like this. We were thinking he was going to have to replace the master cylinder. He replaced his brake pads and in the process somehow allowed air into the system. He then compounded the problem by using DOT 3 brake fluid to bleed the system and the problem got worse.

After lookin in the manual, we discoverd he needed to be using DOT 4 fluid (I do not know the difference between them). We then changed the brake fluid and after several ( about 5 times) more brake bleeding sessions it is fine. It takes a while to get all the small trapped air bubles out.

I have read where guys have also had to replace the master cylinder and bleed the brakes to fix the problem but I believe their problem was present all along and did not just develop like yours sounds it did.

Check your brake pads too, they may be getting bound up with dirt and stuff and not moving like they should.

DOT3 or DOT4 is not the problem, you just have air in the lines or you have to move the pad farther than the stroke of the master cylinder can move in one pull. I would not mix DOT 3 and 4 fluid together but that is not your problem. DOT 4 has better cooling and does not atract moisture as easily. Check your front wheel bearings, if bearings are bad they allow the rotor to wobble and push the pads out futher than the caliper can push them back. Hope this helps, TORK
