Default Help! torn cv boot

I have just disasembled my 400 to replace the rear outer boot, and I cant figure out how to get the knuckle off that the boot protects. I cant see a c-clip or anything that is holding the thing on. Any help ?

it has been a while but from what i remember there is a c-clip that you take off on the end of the shaft and it just slides right off. you might have to take some gas and an old paint brush to remove all the grease so you can see what you are doing. after doing a couple you won't have to remove the grease but the first time it is a good idea so you can see what you are doing.

Lots of times it is not a true "C"clip that you need "C" clip pliers to remove, but just a spring in the groove that you have to pop up with a small screw driver so you can grab it with some needle nose pliers and pull it out.

First if you are doing the outboard boot you have to unload everything starting with the inside CV-Joint, boot, and then outer boot. The outer CV-Joint will not come apart.

Just give the outer cv joint a good knock with a brass hammer and it wiil come off. The outer cv boot kits arctic cat sell come with two extra bands/clamps for the inner boot but you don't have to remove it. It has a spring clip that fits into a groove on the knuckle.
