Default What's up with the different key series?

I need a key for my Arctic Cat 2005 4x4. I bought it at an auction and it didn't come with a key. The problem is that there are four different series for the keys (C-Series,D-series, E-series, and F-Series) and I have no idea what series works with my ignition. The dealer told me to look on the ignition switch for a code and I found a four digit number (that identifies the cut for the key), but nothing indicating the series type. Does anyone know why there are 4 series types and if it really makes a difference between them, and how to go about finding out what series type i need?

Thanks a bunch,
Tom

I know this isnt the best suggestion, but in a pinch I'd just have one of each made and see which one worked. But couldnt you just call AC with the VIN like you would on a car?

One solution is to get each one made ($11CND each), another one is to guess (25% chance of getting it right the first time), a third solution is to buy the entire ignition/key assembly ($80CND). I don't like any of these. My local dealer says that they can't determine the series type from the VIN
