Default Cat won't get past idle...HELP!!!

I have 2000 500A that idles perfectly but misses even slightly above idle and dies past that. I have gone through the carb it looks good, there was a dirt dobber nest in the carb vent... thought that was going to be it, but... no better. Does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing something simple? Thanks in advance, Rob

Does it do it in the reserve position on the fuel shut off valve? If not you have a plugged screen in the main pickup in the tank or crap in the main feed to the valve or at the valve itself. It could be a spark plug issue. When is the last time you changed the plug and if over a year or a 1000 miles, change it because it is the smart thing to do.

I haven't changed the plug, I did pull it and clean it. I'll try to get on and replace it though. It does the same thing in reserve the fuel seems to be getting to the carb fine. Thanks

It wasn't the plug, went through the carb again thought I found a little trash in a jet, reinstalled, same thing. Unplugged the harness from V. regulator to charging coil revs fine. Checked coil, it's okay. Pulled the fuse panel up... seems to be working fine like that. I guess there is a short somewhere in that area. Will look at it later. Thanks, Rob

is it possible that you don't have your main jet set correctly? are you running it to rich? and if it was electricle you would be blowing fuses so i doubt it would be that. could your fuel filter be plugged?

Have you checked your air filter...

I had a 03 500 that did the same thing. I had to change my air filter and my spark plug....

Air filter is clean, plug is new. It's cutting up again, it's something electrical. If I unplug the V. Reg. it revs fine. I don't know if it is the regulator or something down stream from the reg. Well, I'll keep lookin'. Thanks, Rob

The only thing down stream of the voltage regulator is the battery.
