I was reading a post and this guy had a 300 4x4 that backfired out the muffler when he had it wide open and the let off. My 250 2x4 does this also. Cowboy said that there was an easy fix to this, but could not rember what it was. Does any one know what the fix is? This is realy anoing and not cool when you are riding with a bunch of people and the are all looking around to see who that was. Thanks for the help.

I have the same machine and had the same problem, after months of my dealer trying to solve the problem by adjusting the carb, Arctic Cat sent a 300 mufler. That seemed to fix the problem for the most part, even now it still backfires but it is a rarity and only if I have it wide open for a while and totally let off the gas even then it rarely happens, not to mention the mufler gave me a little more power.

Backfireing is a sign of your motor running lean

My 2001 500 backfired when you let off the gas. The dealer rejetted it that cured about 90% of the problem.

My 2000 400 backfired under the same circumstances. The dealer found that it had an exhaust leak at the inlet to the muffler. He simply tightened the clamp and the problem was completely solved.

Cheers Jim

I have to agree, it seems that after about 100 miles there is enought suit build up that it clogs the exhast leak and stops the back firing.
