I still think it was a carb problem and not electrical. Undercharging would cause the problem you described, but not overcharging. Overcharging would make the ignition hotter, not weaker; Unless your mechanic has found a way to change physics.

I don't know, bear. Like I said, it's a new one on me. But I do know the new regulator and battery fixed the problem the first time. Then, when I took it back in he spliced a wire from the battery to the back of the ignition key (bypassing the wiring harness) and it fired right up. After he got the old harness off, he called me in to look at it and show me some more about the problem and it looked like crap (very heavily corroded). Anyway, after it's all said and done, these two visits to the shop will have cost me about $800 bucks. I almost traded it in on a new cat the other day, but I've had such good luck and good times with it, I just hate to see it go. It won't take too much more money for me to kiss old faithful goodbye, though.

Replaced my old bike with an '06 AC 400 4x4 FIS today. Sure hated to see it go, but I really like my new one!

Congratulations! You know, you really should update once in a while. If the wife didn't put as few miles on our 250 as she does, it would probably be ready for replacement.

Thanks. Yeah you're right. This bike is alot nicer than my old one too. These things sure have come a long way since '99! A 400 isn't the biggest beast by any means, but it's plenty of power for me to putt around on. I've noticed a couple of people on here have those Venom winches. I was checkin' em' out on ebay and considering buying one. I wonder if they're any good?

A buddy just bought one for his LT500 and of course I had to wire it for him. Worked fine when we tested it. Haven't had to really use it yet.

My dad has a 2000 500 auto, and I used to have a 2004 400 auto. Once my 400 was broken in it has as much power as my dad's 500. I think the Cat 400's are top shelf.
