Does anyone know if the front and rear wheels on a 300 AC 4x4 are the same width?

No, the rears are 12x8. I've confirmed this with 3 dealers and 1 person that bought 300 rear wheels to mount on the front of his 400.

Just hit your knees and look. The size should be stamped on the inside of the rim. (not inside like the inside of the tire, but on the inner part below the lip) The 454 rims says 12x8. I guess they still use that rim.

The rims on a 300 are stamped 6.5" front & rear. Offset is same front & rear.

The only 8" rims I have ever seen, (and I have only looked at the sizes on two quads) were on a 1998 AC 454. This had 12x6.5 on front and 12x8 on back. Both were the regular titan rims that all AC's come with. My 500 has the 12x6.5, and I really never checked on any of the other 98 or 99 models. It would seem to me that AC may have stopped putting the 8" rims on back around that year.

Here is my take, 4x4 AC's, at least the larger ones, (400, 454, 500) all have the same size tires front and rear. The same tire on a wider rim will sit lower because the tire covers more of an area and doesn't balloon. Unless you vary your pressure, you will have an uneven tire ratio. I guess the same would go for a quad that needs a 1" difference as well, because even with an inch larger rear tire, you would lose the height difference by having the wider rim back there.

The 454 tire in the front is noticeably taller because the tire balloons more on the smaller rim, and is the same size tire as the rear.

I should have known that BONER would be right. I went into my garage and got on my knees to check for myself. Here are the results on three 1999 AC 300's, could be different (??) on the big bores, other years, etc...I don't know...I only know what I read on MY rims.

2x4...front AND rear 6.5"
4x4 #1...front 6.5", rear 8"
4x4 #2...front 6.5", rear 8"

Happy Holidays,
Mike

AC did put 8 inch wheels on the rear of the 300's but I believe it was changed in 99 to the 6.5's. AC also changed the 400 and 500 models rims so the width would be 6.5 front and rear.

I have a friend who bought a 98 300 4x4 and it had 6.5's on the front and 8's on the rear. I know this because I bought his 8's with the front style offset from him. I installed them on the front of my 98 400 4x4 so I could have 8 inch wheels front and rear.

Thanks for all your input. I checked mine and they're both stamped 12x6.5.
