Default Introduction Purchased new 05 400tbx

Just a little introduction, New to the forums, and Just purchased a new 2005 AC 400 TBX 4x4 fresh out of the crate. Feel i got a pretty good deal on it, $5500 out the door with Winch and plow. Just looking for any TBX owners who might give some extra need to knows about the machine. Have only had a chance to ride it onto the back of my truck and back it off into the garage.

One thing i did notice was that when i tried to put it in N from R it didnt shift out of R until i hit the gas and moved it a bit. Is this normal, just not in a spot where it could unload out of gear or is this something that needs to be looked at?

Any other qwerks etc would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on the purchase! I don't have the TBX. I've just got a regular 400 auto. From my experience and from what I've heard from others, the hard shifting thing is common until things get broke in. When I first got my 400, I thought I was going to break the lever trying to shift. I've got 250 miles on mine now and it's starting to get easier. From what I hear, the 500 mile mark on the 400 is the magic point. Thbe engine seems to get broken in really well and there is an increase in power as well. One extra thing you should consider getting is a new set of tires. Anyway, enjoy your new machine!

Sounds like you did pretty well on the TBX considering the winch and plow. I have an 06TRV 400 and absolutely love it. I have the same issue w/ shifting a bit hard, dealer warned me of this and told me around 250-500 miles I may have to bring back in to adjust idle to allow for easier shifting.
Don't mind me asking what dealer has '05's left? I am looking for a second one. If you do any trail riding let me know I'm just an hour north of you.
Enjoy your new workhorse!

Almost forgot, allow it to warm up, when it's at high idle (auto choke) you will definatley have difficulty shifting. Once it is warm and goes to normal idle should shift fine. When it becomes difficult at normal idle your idle will need turned down.

I didnt really ask why they had it left, however it was still in a crate in the wharehouse. I saw them pull the crate down and it still had the factory seal on it, so I know for sure it was brand spankin new. came with 2 year warranty compared to the 6 month standard, so it didint make a lot of difference between an 05 or an 06. where abouts are you, i have family near white cloud that i will be doing some trail riding?

Welcome! The 400 is a good engine, but you will NEED at least 300 miles before she starts to wake up. YOu will think it is a dog until then, but the more miles you get on it the better she is. At 100 miles I recommend changing to synthetic oil. GOod luck.

I have around 7400miles on my AC 400 engine. Nearly 80% of those miles it was hauling something for work.

I think the engine wakes up some around 300-500miles but by the time you get about 1000miles you will really notice a difference. I think I noticed it the most when I was in Low range 4x4.

The only other thing you may want to look into if youa re going to be plowing is to replace the springs on the schocks with HD springs. They cost about $150 from highlifter and are much stiffer than the stock springs. Which helps support the extra weight of the plow sticking out the front. I also feel it handles better when carrying a load. I did this to my TRV first then put them on my 400.

If your plow did not come with it you may want to look into a set or auxilary lights for the front rack and a back-up light to make it easier to see when plowing in the dark.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride.

Hollywood,
Was wondering what dealer still has 05's in stock? I'm looking for another machine.

Swampy,
Have you added the HD springs to the rear for towing? Just wondering since my trailer really squats the rear, wondering if different springs/shocks would help this.

Thanks

TRVRider,

I put the HD springs on the front and back of my 500TRV because when I was carrying two 250lb adults and towing a small 4ft trailer the machine squatted too much with the shocks'springs adjusted to their stiffest setting. It would actually bottom out the shocks and you could feel it.

I notice the new HD springs the most when plowing or towing a trailer with no passenger on the machine. If you have difficulties with the weight squatting the machine I would highly reccomend them. The also helped with steering according to my wife.

Hollywood, is the 2005 TBX you got the one that allows you to switch back and forth between a 2nd passenger seat and the dumpbed? OR was that a 2006 thing?
