Been there done that many times more than once! Survived every time except once. It was on a 400 Cat. It didn't like the stuff and sucked it up to much into the engine. Cost me $1,500 so far. Not sure about the long term damage to the transmission yet. Of course, it's my fault since all previous times no water got in the oil. So it took me a hour or so to realize that it happened this time. Oil was very muddy. :-(
Had my 300 Cat over it's handle bars in water quite a few times, and never had a problem. Also had a Honda in water floating very often, and never had a problem.
Guess you just have to meet that repair bill once though, to decide how deep is "too deep"!
