2001 arctic cat 350
#1
i have an 350 arctic cat but its not getting any spark. but im also not getting a neutral light on the "dash board" either. not sure on how this is wired up but from past experiences if it has a semi-automatic transmission the engine will not fire without it being in neutral.
so my question is are the two problems one in the same or should it be getting spark with the tranny in neutral but no light on the dashboard.
also if the light does have to be on for spark what are some common problems that would lead me to the right direction for a fix

AC doesn't and never have made a 350 anything. A 300 and a 375 but no 350.

There is a troubleshooting proceedure in the shop manual for the ignition system. Go here to download the manual; 2001 Service Manual here

Does the engine turn over but not fire or is it not turning over at all? Can you pull start it instead of electric start or not starting at all? Each could mean something different. (multiple problems)
The reason I ask is because if it won't turn over at all you may have a short in the neutral switch OR because you said the neutral light does not work all the time you could have a short that finally popped the starter relay fuse (30amp fuse that operates on a selinoid).
Sounds like it could be as simple as a blown fuse or possibly more complicated like a short some place. There is no easy fix or finds for those frustrating shorts. I usually start at the battery with a volt meter and follow the juice to where it goes checking for continuity and cleaning connections and grounds as I go. The wiring diagram can be helpful for this as would the test procedures for certain things like ignition coils, selinoids and neutral switches.
The wiring diagram , testing procedures and trouble shooting tips are in the service manual.

the engine does turn over by the pull start. the starter is messed up and needs a rebuild kit but im just trying to get fire off the spark plug right now.
so to answer the question,
pull start turns motor over but produces no spark
hit the starter button i get nothing at all. not even a clk on the starter relay but like i said before the starter brushes on the starter are shot

You are killing me Bear you ruined the punch line!
Actaully that is where I was headed eventually.
Eggenz7, assuming everything is in the "on" position and machine is in neutral (or brake lever is on) it should pull start with out the starter being needed.
You could start with a simple change the plug, try again, check that it is getting fuel, air and such. Also, check battery ground.
