Hunting, trail riding yes. I think they lack in power if your going to add larger mudding tires and hit a mud pit with it. As far as hard to handle, not likley. My 650 handles like it has power steering

It also depends on what you are comparing it to. Anytime you compare a 400 to a 500 or a 650 the 400 looses for obvious reasons. BUt what about the 400 compared to other 400 utility atv's?
Is it big? - YES, is it slow? (if you call 55mph slow then YES). Will it go through mud? definitely, driver experience will make up for power most of the time. The 400 will not turn 30inch mud tires for obvious reasons.
I believe the AC 400 is one of their top selling models. Probably due to price and features. Plus, I still remember when a 250 was a huge engine. Now they have what and 800? Bigger is not always better, its just bigger.
All I know is my AC 400 does very well trail riding, on rough terrain, towing heavy loads, and going through mud and water when I want to. (I don't even have a diff locker ) As far as hunting goes, I put my 300# body, my gear, and an entire field dressed bull moose on at one time. Carried it about 8 miles through some swamps, trails and such. No problems. Other guys I was with flat stated "they would not have attempted it with their machines" which were larger than mine.

The AC 400 Is an all around good quad weather it be for hunting, trailriding, or even Mudding which is what I use mine for. As far as Maneverability it handels really well. If you are planning to use it for mudding I recommend getting rid of the stock tires and depending how the mudd is to get an aggressive tire like I have on my AC 400. Tires make all the difference. The tires I have on mine are the Maxxis Muddzillas 27x12-9 in the front and 27x12-12 in the rear. The motor pushes them fine and have had no troubles. The best money I ever spent.
