I bought a 2007 700efi and now have350 miles on it. I live in Wasington state and bought mine from "The outdoor toy store" in Carson, WA. I purchased a 2007 400 in August but found that there was not enough power for what I wanted(I am 6'8" and 290 lbs). They have a rebate program going right now that I have utilized on both of the quads I have purchased. The rebate for the 2007 400 was $2,000.00 and for the 700efi it was $3,500.00. The rebate is redemeable after 47 months. Sound to good to be true? Alot of people say so. Call Aaron Kreps at the "Outdoor Toy Store" (509)427-7474 and either he or one of there fantastic staff will help explaine. I am not kidding here at all. They have sold machines to other states recently. Hope this helps

 

I bought a 500i back in 2002, and have been using it for four years to haul firewood. Probably 600-700 pounds in the trailer per load, mostly oak or walnut, heavy stuff. And that's over some fairly rocky trails, with a couple of hills between the wood and my house.

Never had a moment's problem with the Cat. It is a firewood getting machine. I did break the nut off of one axle, but it was my fault - got a tree jammed between the rear wheels with a full trailer load behind it, goosed it to get over the tree, and popped the wheel off. Sideways pressure on the rear wheels with a heavy load behind - I shouldn't have done it.

A 500 will haul all the wood you want, and best of all, it can be had with a manual transmission, so you never have to worry about belts slipping. I highly recommend a Cat for getting firewood. It sure worked for me.

I forgot to mention that the 06 is new and AC have a promo going on now whereas the warranty is upgraded from 6 months to 3 years bumper to bumper. What do you think? Thanks, Richard

 

Something else to throw in the decision making process. I have a 400TRV for my wood getting machine. No issue pulling my trailer loaded down w/ oak, plus rather handy having the box available for saw/oil/gas etc... Longer wheel base I think makes it a little more stable when pulling hard to keep it from flipping if the tongue gets heavy and you goose it.
No issues w/ the 400 as far as low end grunt, definately keep it in low range, haven't bogged it down yet.
Just another option...the TRV in 07 are offered w/ the 400 and the 650H1 motors.

 

you can't go wrong with either. 500 pounds is just a drop in the bucket. i have pulled atv's that weight more then 500 pounds out of the mud without a single power issue. and welcome to the forums.

 

Thanks for the info. As it worked out the dealer called and said now the 06 650 SE is not to be had. Maybe he sold it to someone else for more? A buddy calls and said check out Gander Mt. so I did. They are having a sale ta'boot! I took TRV's advise and checked out a TBX 07 650. Its just what I need. I had them add a warn 2500 wench and front brush bar. I pick it up monday.
