i change my oil yesterday and after going for a short ride i noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine at an idle.rev it up,it goes away, when it returns to an idle the noise is still there.it is a 2001 ac/500 with 300 miles on it.it is still under waranty.any input would be comforting!

When was the last time you had your valves re-adjusted? I had to have my 300's adjusted at about 150 miles since it had broken in at the time maybe yours is just seating now.

re-adjusting the valves was my fist though,i had a 500ac with 1,400 miles on it,never had a wrench on it,a friend of mine has a 400ac with 900 miles on his,he had his checked but the dealer told him it was in spec's.i'm going to try to get it in the shop this week and hope that will cure the noise.

If the idle is set to low the decompression valve will tick quite loud, and this is normal. I have noticed it on mine when I turn the idle way down, the dealer confirmed it was normal.

Cheers Jim

THATS what the **** ticking is!!!!!!! Good thing, I thought it was piston slap. That would realy suck to have to bore it out and put a bigger piston in it. I wounder if I could use a Foreman Piston???? It is 3 mm larger(6.43mm with the big bore), but would it actually work????
