Default Problem??? 2 Belts = 400 Miles

A friend of mine has a 05 Artic Cat 650 V2 and hes got some bigger 1"1/4 lug ITP's on it and he has eaten 2 belts in the last 400 miles. somebody had told him he needed to make some clutch mods but he dont know what? anybody have and idea and can he handle it himself. He's pretty mechanically enclined. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

they are talking about cluth kits. they tend to save the life of the belt. someone on here will let you know what brand or where to go to buy one. what size tires? i wouldnt think anything 27' or under would do much damage to the belt if driven correctly. i know if you ride trails with the V2 then you should ride in low (45 mph or slower). like i said, someone will be here shortly to give more advise.

Yes, with that year there are issues with any mods to the ATV. First, make sure he is in low range all the time. He shouldn't use high unless he is planning on going 60 mph. Second, he needs to READ THIS

blowing two belts in 400 miles would tell me hes riding in high. Ive put over 1200 miles on my stock belt with no problems. RIDE IN LOW on the 650V2, and if he has bigger than stock tires, he needs to look at a clutch kit, as stated.

Yup, i bet it is riding in low. Also, check out nyrocatv.com to under tech tips inthe prairie section(same belt drive) to check his belt deflaction and adjust.

i got epi springs in my 650 pink primary and black secondary. i think the websight is erlandson.com or something like that. the primary spring is easy to put in takes roughly 5 min all you gotta do is pull off the 8 bolts for the cover and the spring tension is at 0. the black secondary is more of a pain, you gotta buy or make a clutch compression tool which a lil searching on the net you can find out how to make one. all you need is a pvc pipe or a metal pipe ( i recommend metal) a long bolt couple washers and a couple nuts. you have to take the secondary clutch off which is just the one bolt and it slides off. you should have 2 washers on this bolt that holds the secondary clutch on you need to take the thicker of the two off and this should get you close to specs for the belt deflection.
