Default manual 500 fuel issue

I just got a 2003 500. I went to changed the oil in it because it has sat in the guy's backyard for the last year. The oil smelled as if it had gas mixed in it. I am looking for a hint on what may be wrong? I talked with the guy who owned it and he told me he as never had a problem with it and never put any gas in the oil. Any help would be appreciated.

my o2 400i manual, the oil smells like gas too, if you want to see if you have to much gas in your oil, pour some of your old oil in a styrofoam cup, if it eats the cup in a couple of minutes, then theres to much gas in your oil, but mine spells of gas to which is only normal

My TRV is a 03 Auto and the oil has never smelled like fuel. If your float sticks or it is running rich the excess fuel inthe combustion chamber can over clean the cylinder walls causing more metal to metal contact and lead to early engine failure. This excess fuel can also trickle around the rings when the engine is off and get into the oil. This will thin the oil and can damage bearings.

There is a crankcase vent tube that attaches to the intake between the airbox and the carborator on some models. I can see where excess fuel might dribble its way into that tube and into the crankcase but the amounts would be small. Probably just enough to give you a smell.

Also, certain AC 500's had carborator overflow issues. I don't remember exactly what this was but I know a few people who had their carbs replaced by AC.

As Booboobear sugested, how much fuel are you talking about? I think a small amount voer a long period of time might be considered normal. Otherwise?

Welcome to the forum.

If you need parts Booboobear can let you know whose machine to get them off.
