*** QUESTION ANSWERED - See Below ***

Hi Everyone,

I know this question has been asked so many times, and the more threads I read here and elsewhere, the more I am confused. There is a common test that some say that if I spin a front wheel one way, the other wheel should spin in the same direction. Some say that it should be the opposite direction due to the type of LSD. Some say that 2003 and earlier had LSD, some say 2003 and later are open, etc. Sorry guys, I'm very much still a newbie and just need a clarification on this and sorry if this has been asked so many times already.

So this is for 2003 model, not other model years. Is there any written manual specifying this? Is there some real test to test the diff?

Dennis

2003 AC 400 4x4 Auto FIS - Open or Limited Slip?
Been sort of wondering the same thing myself. Some say it is limited slip some say it is open. At times I think it is open because if I have one front off the ground it continues to spin. Other times I can feel it transfer the power back and forth because the handlebars twitch left and right as the particular side gets grip (especially noticible in snow).

Oh well not much I can do about it either way. If it is, it is and if it isn't then so be it. My machine goes pretty good and when it stops going then I am stuck... I don't mind getting stuck sometimes - gives me an excuse to play with my winch... lol... (no sense in having a winch if you don't get to use it)...

You know i'm not sure myself about this question , i bought an 86' Honda TRX 350 Foreman in jan,1989 with only 20 hrs on the machine with fulltime 4x4 it was limited slip ! When i took it to the mountain's for the first full day of riding it wound make an awfull grinding noise when turning cruve's going down hill will throttle off , i thought it was the gear's being chewed up ; i was worried i woundn't make it home ! But it did and i went to the local Honda dealer where the original owner bought it , and he told me it was supposed to do that ; it was like a rachetting noise so i stopped worring about it ! I sold it to my brother in november 2005 and he's still riding it almost every day with no problem's ! I bought a 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto with the diff lock and 2wd/4wd switch on the right handle bar , i don't hear the grinding noise on the Cat ; so i'm not sure if it's limited slip or not ! Check with your local Cat dealer and ask them about it , and keep us posted as to what you find out ; as i wound like to know for sure ! williebee

HERE IS THE ANSWER:

I spoked to the dealer who in turn clarified with the technical department at Arctic Cat. The 2003 400 FIS has a LIMITED-SLIP Differential.
