What type of oil
#1
I'm going to be doing my first oil change on my 650 H1 soon, what do you recommend? I live up in central Canada. I remember something about a wet clutch oil being said on here. If someone could explain this, that would be great. I've looked around at the local Walmart for "wet clutch" oil and can't find anything that states that on the bottle. I think that I want to go synthetic due to low temp that we experience up here.

I believe in your owners manual it will specify SE, SF or SG rated. This will be sufficient for wet clutches. For the first few oil changes the regular dino will be fine, not that your engine can't break-in with synthetic but only from the standpoint that it is cheaper. If you plan on changing oil frequently then regular dino is fine. A clean dino is better than a dirty synthetic. You will have to determine the economics that suit you the best. I switched from synthetic to dino but I also change oil more often. In a long run I feel that I have better protection by having fresher oil all the time and it is cheaper for me to do it that way. If money is no object then use synthetic and change it every 300 miles or so. But a clean dino will give you just about as good lubrication for the 300-500 miles.
Just some food for thought.

Thanks guy's for the input. The reason I want synthetic is for the cold weather. Not to sure where you guys are from but up here it's not uncommon to see the temp drop -40 C. plus the windchill. Not like I'm going to be driving the machine when its that cold but I use it in my car and cold starting is beautiful with synthetic.
My father last year had his oil filter come loose on his car and didn't realize until the oil light came on. checked the dip stick and nothing on it! I beleive the synthetic saved his engine. I feel the properties of synthetic are superior but you do pay the price like you said.

Are you guys just buying your synthetic from your local dealer? or have any of you found a fairly decent online seller that isn't too bad, or trustworthy?? I have one dealer where i'm from, but they are a bunch of dorks, and i refuse to give them buisness, i'd like to find a trustworthy place to order online, any suggestions??
