Speed limiter on 03 400 4x4
#2
Well if it stops at 52 then only drive it at 51 then it won't stop... lol..
Well 500's go faster and 650's go even faster than the 500's
But you could invest in CDI's exhaust, jets, induction systems, boring kits, cams and other go fast stuff, once you get the hp up there then you can put bigger tires and lighter rims, take your racks off and other stuff that would lighten your machine up, and end up with a total investment that may cost more than the price it would have cost to buy a 500 and it probably still won't be as fast. How fast do you want it to go? If you take it past the limiter then the engine will loose it's durability and life span, if you take it too high you could blow the motor. You could always just buy a 500 motor and tranny and it should bolt in with little or no modifications.

Yeah, good point, i probobly would just burn it up. I guess i'll just work on things to get him up to 52 faster then lol. I don't mind spending money on it, i just want it to be all the 400 it can be lol.......eh, if that makes any sense. Thanks again for the guidence buckaroo50

You aren't going to get much more speed out of that 400. More power, sure, but if you break 55, I'd be surprised. Buck said it, if you want to go faster, you need to buy a 650, the 500's are only a hair faster than the 400's. If you really want faster then find a 650 V2, tops out about 65.

I hear you on having the 400 be all it can be. I did a post on 'air-jetting' you may find it interesting. I was able to get 22% more gas mileage (20 to 24+). Your engine has to be more effecient and also have more hp (engine works easier) to up the gas mileage. Pretty good gain for $6.00 investment. I think I have a link or too with some pictures.
