2003 Artic Cat 500

The Cat dealers sell a nice oil change kit that has everything you need. Synthetic oil and a filter, plus the a spout for pouring. Around $30 the last time I looked, but it's money well spent.
Drain plug is a large nut on the bottom of the engine in the center. There is a hole cut in the skid plate for it - you can't miss it. Drain the oil, spin the old filter off (it's a bit fussy to get to but not bad), wipe a bit of oil on the rubber ring on the new filter, spin it on and snug it down, replace the drain plug, and refill the engine through the dipstick hole. Pretty simple.
It's a good idea to just let the engine idle for a minute when you first start it after changing the oil. The new filter has to fill up with oil, and you won't have any oil pressure until that happens.
