This sounds stupid, but tell me, how many of you slapped that little red WARN sticker right across the winch plate above the fairlead? I did, my cousin did, looks like Cowboy did too. Must be a popular place or something.

Oh yeah, add one more topic to the AC forum. A useless one like a lot of those found in other forums.

When I installed my winch, I looked at the sticker and then the winch & thought, right above the fairlead would be a goood place for the sticker. My main thought was the sticker would adhere to the steel better than plastic & would probably last longer there. But I didn't put it on for some reason. Then I started seeing others who put their sticker in the same place. A couple weeks later while installing Dad's winch on his Cat, I put both stickers in the same place on both Cats.

I think Warn designed the sticker to fit in that exact spot on the mounting plate so everyone would advertise for Warn.

Andy;
Yeah, you're right, mine is there too. That was thanks to the dealer though. When I bought the 'Cat, I got the Warn for the $69 promotion, with free install. So, that's the way it was when I picked it up. He also mounted my switch on the right hand side, which on more than one occassion, has been a little inconvenient. I think that remote toggle switch from the 2500 is probably the best option, but as it turns out, most of the time I am glad it is on the right side. Just a few lone circumstances where it would have been nice to have on the left.

Where'd you all mount your switches, are you happy with the position????

On the left, like it there. Great for snow plowing.

Right is better. In the mud it's nice having one hand on the gas, and the other one on the winch. So you can be off you ATV

Well if you are sitting on your atv your right hand is controlling the gas. So if your right hand is controlling the gas then your left hand is free to control the winch. So the winch switch would seem to be better situated on the left. Or am I missing something.

Thats it! Thats kind of what I was getting at. Left or right switch mounting, kind of depends on whether or not you actually sit on the quad or not. So, what does everybody prefer??? Myself, I like being OFF the quad when winching. That way, I can keep a close eye on the cable, how it's wrapping on the drum, etc. I think it's probably a little safer as well, but I could be wrong on that one.

I did get stuck on a steep hill once, that was sooo steep I couldn't get off, or the front was going to go over backwards. My buddy had to climb up from the bottom, unhook my winch, and rig it up for me, while I sat helplessly hugging my front end. Definately wished my switch was on the left for that one!

Mine is mounted on the left side of the front racks on the 4 way intersection closest to the little bar that goes up and under the speedometer. Supported from underneath on all four sides, and it won't slide around like it will if you mount it on a single bar. Works good for me. I can reach it and feather the gas at the same time. Right now, the damn thing doesn't work, so it looks like I will be coughing up about $30 to Dennis Kirk for another one.

I've got my sticker above the fairlead also.
I've got the switch on the left side too, the same place as Andy's. I use the winch mostly for snow plowing, so having it there makes sense, winch with one hand, shift forward or reverse with the other...
