2004 650 stalls/backfires on rough terrain
I own a 2004 Arctic Cat 650 twin (Kawasaki). Lately it seems that when I'm riding on rough terrain it wants to stall. I can get it started again and keep it running but it is doggish and backfires. If I let it set for a few minutes, it seems to come out of it unless I ride rough again. I have replaced plugs, cleaned air filter, and drained the bowl once. any ideas????

Try taking the carbs out, not apart, just disconnect them and spary jet carb cleaner in them. You can empty the bowl but the carbs could still have dirt or bad gas in them so you should spray all the inlets and holes with jet carb cleaner. Hook the lines back up and start it. While it is running spary jet carb cleaner into the intakes while goosing the throttle. Makesure you have the bike in N and the brake on before you do this. My Cat was doing the samething and it worked for mine. I would try this before taking it to the dealer. Is you Cat stock? Some Mods can affect you Cat too.

Thanks bcjag72. This is exactly what the problem was. I was able to perform the task by leaving the carbs on the machine. I basically sprayed out the jets and drained the bowls in sequence about four times, put it back together. Runs great now. The dealer hadn't figured this out so I called him back and let him know.
Oh yeah...I have no mods on this machine.
Thanks again!!
