400 and 500's fuel sending units
#1
the word from AC on the sending units displaying wrong fuel level is to
take them out clean them with an electrical contact cleaner, let dry completely and pop them back in.
apparently the "shock" from first being exposed to fuel is what make them read incorrectly.
this is from an AC tech...just relaying the message.

Must be for the electronic gauge? Because my fuel gauge is the old mechanical plastic float. It fell off a while back but its OK because I never read it anyway. I just know I can go about 100-120mi before I go to reserve and that will get me maybe 15-25mi more. Then I better be at a fuel source or I am walking.

yes the electronic type.
i see the floats fall off the mechanical ones all the time lol.
nothing a little super glue cant fix. but it can be a little tricky getting the float out of the tank if it comes off the spiral
