Temp indicator/fan on when engine is cold - '00 500
#1
I've got a '00 500 Auto that I'm just finishing putting the motor back together and in. Had it completely apart to fix the trans. Getting ready to start it - when I turn on the key, the High Temp indicator comes on as well as the radiator fan. Can't get the starter to crank either - not sure if that's because it thinks it's hot. Anyhow, any ideas on how to determine if it's a bad temp sensor or some wiring problem? Something else?
Thanks for any ideas,
Steve H.

I thought that might be the case. I don't recall the fan/light being on before I took it apart - but that was like 6 months ago. I'll have to try to trace some wires. Maybe the mice have found the good ones...
BTW - does the temp light always come on when the fan comes on? I would think the fan would come on to regulate the radiator/coolant temp - and the light would come on only when it got too hot.
Anyone know the resistance values on the temp sensor when cold/warm/hot?
Thanks,
Steve

Got the motor running. The fan seems to stay on constantly, but the TEMP light goes off right away once it's running. I'm going to call it good for right now.
