What type of maintenance should be made to my AC 500 auto after the breakin period? That is besides changing oil, filter, and checking other fluids, hoses , etc...

A friend of mine just bought a 6 month old Praire 400 4x4 and the previous owner told him it needed to be taken in to the dealer so the heads and/or carb could be readjusted. Should his be done on all quads?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I haven't done anything other than what you've mentioned to either of our Auto's. Well, I take that back. After sinking mine in the river, I did tear the thing down, change all fluids, drain tranny and carb as well as the gas tank, then put all fresh in. Also changed the plug. But again, this was only because I decided to go swimming in an ice cold river on accident and drown the 'Cat in the process. If you got the extended warranty, there might be some fine line details about what needs to be done by the dealer, but other than that, I think just kind of keep an eye on things, give it a check over every now and then for loose bolts and such, you'll be fine.

Best of luck,

Mike

Check your valve clearance. They are mostlikely to go out of adjustment juring the break in, just like any other quad. I know Honda's are famous for NEEDING adjustments right after break in. I don't know if they did it on mine, but they sure as hell checked the box off that they checked them, probaly didn't tho.

I talked to a dealer last night and he told me that they do reccomend checking the valve clearance, but not until you reach 1200-1400 miles. So I guess I have some time before I need to do that.

Thanks for the input.
