2005 artic cat 500 auto atv

I'm not here to bash any brand but just look at the new topics on any given day and count the number of posts for Honda , Suzuki , Yahama , Kawasaki , Arctic Cat and Polaris ; this will give you an idea on which quad is the most reliable !
I've owned Honda , Suzuki , Polaris and my present Quad which is an 06' Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto powered by the Suzuki 376cc Engine and Suzuki's Duramatic Belt Driven Clutch Transmission , and i love my AC ; some of my family and freinds ride Honda , Suzuki , Yamaha , Kawasaki and Polaris i'm the only one in our group who rides AC !
But out of all the Quads in our group the 2 that ride Polaris are the ones i work on the most , they do ride their Quads more agressivly than i do ; as do the other riders in our group who punish their Quads but i'm the one who has more free time on my hands so i'm the one who keeps our Quads maintained !
And like i stated above i work more keeping the 2 Polaris Quads maintained , i'm not saying they're junk and i know i will get blasted by the Polaris owners who read my reply ; but i'm only stating facts not fiction so take close aim and fire away !......

I don't bash other peoples bike of choice neither, but if we are all going to stay factual, then here are 2006 worldwide sales.
Can-Am 3%
Arctic Cat 7%
Kawasaki 9%
Suzuki 11%
Polaris 20%
Yamaha 20%
Honda 30%
So thats the real reason why other manufacturers has more forum posts then AC. Also to think all post are problem posts would be incorrect. To say that a dealer sells more of this then that means nothing. If a town has say an AC dealer and a Can-Am dealership, and all the other dealerships are 5 hours away, then yes, that area will sell more AC and Can-Ams then other bikes.
There is also a huge difference between driving styles, age of bike, lemons, improper maintenace and so forth. So, for me, all bikes have their pros and cons.
To say a certain bike is garbage just says that the person doesn't know anything about that machine and most likely has never owned one.
And please, try not to respond with "well my friend has a (enter name here) atv and its always breaking down!" Because there is no way of verifying that. For all we know that "friend" could be a hard driver on any machine, maybe has never maintained it, or maybe a person makes up an "imaginary friend" just to bash another manufacturer.
Its extremely hard to debate an issure on fact alone, once the rubbish is put aside then theres really not much left to argue.

[IMG][/IMG]The best thing to do would be to get rid of the artic cat and buy a polaris. I had an artic cat and hated it. same problems plus a terrible ride! hope this helps.</end quote></div>
If you hate AC and got rid of yours and have a Polaris then why are you in an AC forum - simply to bash a machine.
If you are here simply to bash then I would suggest going to the Polaris forum and helping someone out because Polaris certainly needs help. They used to make a good machine but in the past few years they have dropped close to the bottom and that is FACT!!!! There is a major project with Polaris factory to try and bring them back. The factory even is aware of their blunders and are making extreme efforts to correct and fix the situations.
If you want to ride then buy an AC if you want to practice your repair skills then buy a Polaris....</end quote></div>

Johnzic,
If you just bought you 500 and it is new you need to put some milgeage on that thing. The gears on most new wheelers are as tight as a.....well they are tight. Put some mileage on it like 500+ miles and it will loosen up for you.
Until then having the linkage adjusted, and or lowering the idle rpms will help.
MuddyTRV you can probably do the same to help. But put some mileage on them things. I am nearly at 15000mi on my 400 so it is well past broke in.
Hope this helps

I had to adjust my linkage one turn about two weeks after I bought it. Works great now.
As for what that kid said, #1 many different mfgr's of quads have very good machines, all have their differences, one is faster than another, one cost more, and so on.. I ride with many different quads in muddy trails and if anyone is in doubt thinking they will get stuck they always look at me and say go ahead and we will follow you..LOL..So I usually do. I've pulled out more stuck quads. Damn

i have no doubt in that fact, i know AC's are very good in mud, the best right along with Polaris alot of the time, but as far as reliability, give it a few years, and youll have to start replacing alot of parts and most likely have alot of problems, thats part of the reason why arctic cat hasnt hit the market very hard, that and they dont really come out with much to try and compete with other manufactures, no good sport quads either, the thundercat is super fast and actually a nice quad but it just came out and theyve had so many probs already, but hopefully the bugs will get fixed to where it doesnt break down as fast at least lol

It seems as though the topic of this forum got a little off course, but my trv did the same thing for a bit when it was cold. until I got some miles on it, a minor linkage adjustment should be fine in my opion.
As far as the other subject goes for this forum, I am not here to bash any other brand, All I can say is this, I ride with Honda, yamaha, suzuki and POLARIS, All I can say is that my bike is commonly called the recovery vehicle. LOL. so much so that several guys I ride with are planning on buying AC. I am not saying that AC is without it's problems, (cause every brand has them) But I am saying when it comes to the TRV they did it RIGHT!!! and while certain people in this forum seem to feel as though they are all knowing, a guy that rides a sport bike that is trying to preach his knowledge to a bunch of utility riders, is like a utility rider trying to tell a pilot how to fly!!! the two types of bikes ( sport and utility) are as different as the brands of bikes themselves.

Very well said,
1. turned mine one turn on my 650 & idled it down a c.h. (curly hair)
2.Sold my MX bike many years ago but that and (practicing on flight sim.) was the closest I came to flying.
