Default Oil change question.

I went and got an oil change kit from the dealer I bought my 400 from and got it out to change the oil this evening and the filter is a different size than the on that came on it from the factory(first oil change). The rubber seal is the same size and it threads on fine, it is just a little smaller in diameter and a little longer. Also the P/N is different. I just didn't want to put it on and run it without finding out if they changed the filter design or it's just the wrong filter. Any thought's would be appritiated

Default Oil change question.

As long as the rubber ring/seal is the same diamiter it will be fine , the reason for the longer lenth and smaller diamiter of the replacement filter ; is to hold the same amount of oil !.....

Default Oil change question.

I believe CAT just changed the oil filter in the last year or so. I was told it was due to them having the bypass in the filter changed but I am not sure about that.

I use Wix filters and they are the size of the older filters and cast about $5 each. Newer filter are $12 or so.
