Default Very frustrating Bearcat starting problems.

I cannot get this thing to stay running. I can barely get it to start and when it does it will immediatly stumble and die and will not restart again. I have to crank it until the battery is nearly dead. I'm trying to get it going for my father in law and I'm about ready to burn the thing to the ground.

I've completely rebuilt the carb and changed the filter and sparkplugs. If anyone can give me some direction on what to do next I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance for you time and help.

Lot's of places to start with,

Hows the fuel presure, is it filling the float bowl? Is the pump functioning properly, are the fuel lines clean, is their new fuel in the tank??????

Even tho you just rebuilt the carb pull it apart again and check to see if the clip is on the needle and it's functioning. Sounds like you can get it out of the idel circuit.

Pull out the jets and see if they are clean, and reclean them with carb cleaner.

Have you had it running before with all of these mods or is the first atempt since the mods. In other words are you jetted for these modifications.

What collor is the plug? does it smoke when you get it started, and what color? need more details.

There are no mods on this ATV, it is all stock. (The mods listed in my sig is for my DS650)

I have replaced and cleaned all parts of the carb. New fuel, fuel lines, and fuel filter have all been put on. Spark plugs are white because they're new and it wont run long enough to color them. I can crack the drain at the bottom of the carb and fuel will flow straight out.

I'm fairly experienced at working on ATV's but this has got me totally lost.

Has the valves ever been adjusted? I had a 98 500 and it became increasingly hard to start and ran like chit until I had the valves adjusted. Just a thought, did you check the diaphragm in the top of the carb for cracks?

I AGREE CHECK TO SEE WHAT THE SPEC SHOULD BE ON VALVES AND ADJUST THEM.

The diapharm is good, I have not checked the valves. I will do that asap.

Valves seem to be good.

I cranked it over without the plug in and raw gas shot out of the hole, it was alot. Maybe this has something to do with the problem. The new spark plug is now soaked in gas and black as night.

You might check the air mixture screw. I believe it should be about 1 3/4 turn out to begin with.

Check for a stuck choke as well, the little plunger on the choke could be stuck allowing it to run rich.

You may have a worn out needle and seat or the float level is off.

The needle and seat are new. How do I check the choke? I've read about a primer system, but I dont know how to tell if this carb has it or how to bypass it. Overall I think the machine should run fine, but this carb seems to be the number 1 problem.
