My Buddy has a 98 454 4x4 and it burns a Quart of oil in an hour of riding. It does not leak it, it burns it,you have to have a gas mask on to follow behind him. My question is do you have to pull the engine to take the cylinder apart or can you get it apart by removing the gas tank.We are assuming it has a broken oil or scraper ring. Also does this engine have pushrods or a chain for the cam.
Thanks for your help, Wobly-Wobly

The motor is OHC so it has a chain driven cam. You will have to remove the head and jug to change the rings. While it's down I would recomend modifiying it while it'd down if he has the money.

The best thing is to port and polish the head, everyone that I know that has done this on these motors say they notice a BIGGG difference. YOu can also get a WebCam for about 120 bucks. And The finial thing I can think of is a 500 piston.
