Default 250 Utility Tranmission Jerking in Hi range

I just bought a used 250 utility with 330 miles. The engine runs great and in low range the tranny is perfect. But in Hi range there is a jerking that occurs. Sometimes it does it every 5 -10 seconds then other times it will go quite a while without doing it. It makes a clanking sound and jerks like if you shifted it into gear with the revs up. Any suggestions? Thanks

when you put it in high, try giving it just a little gas at first and you should feel it click into gear. sometimes if you just shift in and go they wont slide all the way in an thats where you get the jerk

Your linkage may need to be adjusted. Sounds like it is not engaging all the way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried putting it in gear this morning and giving it some gas before riding. Did not help...it still does it. Also..if i was not clear before, it doesnt just jerk once like it is locking into gear, it jerks the whole time you are riding. Some times often sometimes not.

I'm not familiar with the linkage on the 250's but when my 04 650 was new, it would keep kicking out of gear when in high gear. I pulled the side panels off, put it in high gear,(while watching which way the linkage traveled) then I loosened the two bolts that are on the linkage bar, extended the bar about 1/4 of an inch and tightened the bolts back up, problem solved. I suggest you take your side panels off, and move the the linkage back and forth to see which way it travels. Then extend or shorten the linkage small adjustments at at time and test drive it. I'm not saying that this is your problem, but it is something that you can check easily before taking it to the dealer. If it is still under warranty, take it to the dealer and make them fix it.

Catskinner...stupid question...is the linkage bar just the bar that connects the shift lever to the little arm on the transmission? When you say take the side panels off you are just talking about body panels right? I'm not taking anything mechanical apart right?

On my atv there is no panel over the bar between the shift **** and the transmission. You can see it without removing anything.
