It isn't firing at all. Replaced coil and sparkplug. A friend who works on 4 wheelers and a service tech both told Me there was a problem with the magnets coming loose on the flywheel on Artic Cat about 03 and 04 models. Has anyone else had this happen ? Thanks.

I have almost 15,000 miles on my 03 Arctic Cat 400 and I have not had this problem.

There is a way to test the output of the magneto but it has to be running. This test is in the service manual. Also, I seem to remember a few posts on here about people having the wire coming out from the magneto grounding out right where it comes out of the crankcase.

Pulled the cover yesterday and the magnets were all loose. They came out on the stator. This is an Eiger engine. Checked with the Suzuki shop and They have a flywheel in stock and it is about $40 cheaper than Artic Cat.

I just had the same thing happen to my 2003 400. It appears this flywheel was a design flaw by suzuki.....I'm finding that this is a somewhat common occurrence on this model arctic cat. The magnets are glued on the original flywheels, but the replacement flywheel has been modified and the magnets are sealed inside the flywheel. Mine is still on back order....This should be a recall item in my opinion...
And, dont try to pull the flywheel without the "special tool" Mine would not budge using a conventional puller , even after applying heat.....If you get too rough with a puller, you'll damage the end of the crankshaft..4 of the six magnets on mine were loose and stuck to the stator also....The stator LOOKS not to be damaged, but I wont know until I get everything put back together....Question....there are two terminal connectors that plug into the coil, a red one and a blue one....I think the red one was on the bottom...but am second guessing my memory.....could someone verify that for me. Thanks

Flywheel finally came in yesterday. Dropped the 4wheeler off at the shop at 2pm today and at 4pm they called and said it was ready. Fired right up, no problem, they said....I'll pick it up tomorrow and see....They've had two more in for the same thing since mine quit....Im just glad it didnt mess my stator up when the magnets turned loose...that wouldve been another 4 to 5 hundred dollars...

Yes, My 2003 Artic Cat 400 has 3200 miles on it and it quit. I had very little spark and then none. I spoke to a dealers mechanic and he mentioned that he had several 400s in where the magnets had come loose from the flywheel. This is exactly what happened to mine. I am in the process of refasting them but I need to replace two of the magnets. Does anyone know where I can find, used or new?
