The cheapest place I have found AC parts online is http://www.catoemparts.com/ which is a link off of the website http://www.kenssports.com/
On average the parts I am looking at are 20-30% cheaper than anywhere else I ahve found. My local dealer said they would match the prices as well and not add in shipping so that was cool too.
I would start with taking it apart and finding out what you need to replace. Sometimes you can find the entire assemblies on ebay but if you are going to just replace parts check out the websites above. There is also a web site directly run by AC for larger parts like frames, differentials and such but I can't find it or remember it off the top of my head. It had been mentioned in a post on here before so try doing a search.

is your case busted? if not you can reuse it.
I have a front ring gear I can sale you for pretty cheap. Just need to make sure its the same ratio. 3.6 and cross refference the number to assure its used in your model as well as the 03.
Oh, and I have a case as well.

Was Arctic Cat making the final drive on a 2001 or was it still a Suzuki? You should be able to tell by the stamp or tag on the diff. I know the engine and tranny should still have been made by Suzuki in 2001 but I am not sure about the final drives?
If they were you might be able to look for Suzuki parts as well. LIke CatKrazy I picked up an 2003 AC 400 parts bike some time ago which has most of its front differential but its out of a 400 not a 500. SO it probably would not help you.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, do you know what caused it to fail?

Im almost positive the 03 and newer gear will work. You may or may not have to change out the rear gears as well. See if you can tell what the ration is.
10t pinion + 36ring gear+ 3.6
9t pinion+36 ring gear+ 4.0
If your rear is a 10/36 I have what you need. Best way to tell... see if the gear cases are the same from 01-03 if they are the ringer gear will work

more than likely will not then. BUT.... I bet a full swap out will! usualy can pick up a acomplete used diff from country cat for around 300.
Or... if you are desperate for it (Mud riding wise) you could weld the spiders in the front ring gear.
