Arctic Cat 500 and 700 efi cold starting
I need a new atv that will start good in cold weather. I would like to get it in the back of my chevrolet 6.5 truck bed with the tail gate up. The dealers in my area have some 2007 AC 700efi , and 2008 500 new hold-overs. How is the cold starting on these? Are there any changes, or improvements in the 2009 models of these atvs that would make me not want the hold-over models?

I believe the EFI will start better in cold conditions. That said, I have never had an issue with cold starting my machines which are carborated. Never had an issue starting them even at -40F.
I personally like what the EFI has to offer but I do not trust it for where I ride. I have just not built up enough trust for that type of computer yet.
I would make my decision on price. I can get a 2007 500 Manual from my dealer for $5400 OTD. I think the 2008 500 EFI was $6800 I don't remember the 2009 prices.

i dont think they fit in a 6 ft. bed with the gate up. Of course when i tried mine i had a front brush guard and rear bumper on it, so it might. If it does barely fit in it then you might risk breaking out your rear window hauling it. ive got both a 2002 500 and an 08 700 efi. I havent had any trouble starting either one in cold weather, the 500 you just need to prime 4 or 5 times then it will crank right up. Mine is a manual choke also ,not an electric like they are now. As far as the 09 models, i think the the only change is they lowered the bike by an inch or so and equipped them with a more race suspension for better handling. Past complaints said they felt a little tippy. Thats all i could tell when i looked at them.

First and foremost make sure you have fresh, clean gasoline in the machine. Secondly, it wouldn't hurt to put some gas line antifreeze in it.
I have a 2004 TRV with the 500 auto. I don't have the primer and it has the Electronic Choke. I have never had a starting problem either, regardless of the temps even tho the battery is the original 2004.
Good luck.
P.S. If I were the one looking to buy, I would definitely lean toward the previous years model if for no other reason than the cost. You can buy lots of goodies with that extra $1,200 to $2,400 difference. Just think of all the things you could use that nice trailer for with the money you saved getting the older model.
